Welcome to Meadowbrook

Welcome to Meadowbrook School, a K-5 school of 420 students located in Northbrook School District 28.  Meadowbrook’s staff is committed to working with parents and students collaboratively to best meet the needs of our students.

Academics

Our students are involved in reading and writing daily during Literacy Studio, as part of our comprehensive literacy model.  In addition, students participate in math and science or social studies classes each day.  Students in grades 1-5 also have Spanish class for 30 minutes daily.   We provide innovative instruction that engages students in thinking critically about their reading, writing and problem solving. Our full-day kindergarten program extends learning opportunities for students by reinforcing and enriching academic content throughout the day, as well as providing a balance of play and learning through exploration.

Educating the Whole Child

In addition to our core academic programs, we offer a Blue Ribbon award-winning daily physical education program that is health-based, as well as weekly lessons in music, art, technology, science lab, library and our social-emotional literacy program, Second Step.  Our program is comprehensive and focused on developing the whole child.

Student Supports

In an effort to help all students reach their full potential, we have a large and diverse staff dedicated to meeting their needs.

Our staff at Meadowbrook uses proactive universal prevention strategies to create a positive learning environment for students.  Our positive climate and culture focus on allowing students to grow through their mistakes.  It also allows them to learn from the consequences of their choices.  In addition to excellent classroom teachers, we have a talented staff that includes multiple learning resource teachers and reading specialists, a social worker, a school psychologist, two EL teachers, a gifted and talented teacher/coordinator, a math interventionist, a speech and language pathologist and an instructional facilitator.  An instructional assistant is also assigned to each classroom to support students in the classroom, lunchroom and playground.

At Meadowbrook, we utilize a Multi-Tiered System of Support framework so that all students receive high-quality support matched to individual needs and goals.  Individual progress is monitored frequently to ensure that instruction is having the desired effect.  We also have a comprehensive special education program that provides services for students all along the learning continuum.

Parent Involvement

We are fortunate to enjoy tremendous support from our parents and community.  Our Parent Teacher Organization is an active group throughout the building that provides enrichment opportunities for our students and their parents.  Detailed information about our PTO can be found via the link on this page.

Meadowbrook is a positive learning community where everyone is committed to working together for the success of all students. We are extremely proud of our school and know you’ll be impressed by what you experience.  If you have any questions or would like to contact me, please email me at egarza@northbrook28.net.
