Meadowbrook students and staff became part of their school’s history on September 9, as they signed a 10-foot steel beam that will be used for the new school building’s structure. With permanent markers in hand, students poured into the current Meadowbrook front lobby to add their names to the beam before it is incorporated into their new school.

The signed beam will be raised and secured as construction progresses. “This is more than just a steel beam,” said Meadowbrook Principal Dr. Ginny Hiltz. “It represents our students, their excitement for the future, and the memories that will be made in our new school. It’s incredibly meaningful to know that the names of our current Meadowbrook students and staff will be part of the building for generations to come.”

The beam-signing was also a celebration of the community’s investment in District 28 schools. On April 1, 2025, the community voted to support a $94.9 million bond referendum. The referendum is funding many exciting projects across each of the district's four schools, with the new Meadowbrook School being the largest project. The new school will seamlessly connect to the new Meadowbrook gymnasium, which was completed in spring 2026. Key features of the new school include:

  • Additional classroom and flexible learning spaces
  • Cafetorium (cafeteria/auditorium)
  • Expanded play areas for students
  • Additional parking for staff and visitors, and improved traffic circulation
  • Abundance of natural light
  • Geothermal system

The new school is anticipated to open for the start of the 2027-28 school year. Construction crews are building the new structure along the current Meadowbrook building, which opened in 1955.
